Addl forces to lift blockade
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Union Home Secretary GK Pillai has contacted the Chief Secretary seeking the opinion of the State with regard to requirement of additional Central forces for ensuring lifting of the total economic blockade imposed along the National Highways.
According to an official source from the State Home Department, in its response to the Union Home Secretary today, the State Government has also requested for sending additional forces.
On the other hand, general secretary of NSCN (IM) Th Muivah, who is currently camping at Pfusoro in Nagaland is likely to go to Mon district very soon, another source said.
Army aid
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Troops of 26 Assam Rifles of Red Shield Division provided relief to hundreds of civilians stranded on NH-53 due to heavy rain and landslides on June 9 and 10. According to a press release of PRO PIB (DW), the troops braving inclement weather provided food and water to the stranded passengers, drivers and cleaners of more than 400 trucks and buses carrying essential goods from Jiribam to Imphal. The troops also provided diesel to the dozers and helped in clearing the mud of landslides. Medical aid was also provided to one of the passengers who was complaining of high BP and chest pain.
Pension scheme
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Manipur Postal Division has informed the general public that New Pension Scheme (NPS) 2009 launched by Government of India for all citizens including Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) between the age of 18 and 55 years will be implemented from Imphal Post Office.
The Imphal Post Office has been designated as the Point of Presence (POP) by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).
Documentary fest opens

IMPHAL, Jun 10: Re: Play Internesenal Dokumentari Kumhei, the first documentary film festival of North East India was inaugurated by Governor Gurbachan Jagat at Classic Hotel yesterday.
The festival opened with American filmmaker Anne Bass’s first film, Dancing Across Borders (2008).
English filmmaker Oliver Fergussen-Taylor’s one-minute animation film, Trash Dance (2008) was also screned on the first day.
Earlier, speaking at the inaugural function, Governor Gurbachan Jagat lauded the filmmakers of the State for producing good films and winning awards despite various constraints.
The Governor expressed confidence that State filmmakers would be able to share their experiences with the delegates coming from outside the State.
He said that bringing people together from different cultural backgrounds and sharing of experiences would mould a new culture that signifies the whole world.
Gurbachan Jagat also expressed hope that Manipuri filmmakers and artistes would have the previledge of learning new ideas from Nan Melville’s workshop on making dance documentary.
Procedure programme
IMPHAL, Jun 9: Indo-Myanmar Border Traders’ Union will organise a two-day import and export management development procedure programme at the conference hall of Trade Centre on June 23 and 24. Details can be had from the office of the union at Babupara from 1pm to 4 pm on all working days, said a press release.

IMPHAL, Jun 9: Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur will organise a two-day workshop on research methodology for the scholars of the University on June 15 and 16 at Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong.
MAL expresses gratitude
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Manipuri Apunba Lup, Karbi Anglong has expressed gratitude to each and every organisation and individual who extended co-operation in making the 36-hour blockade on National Highways 36 and 39.
A press release issued by its Convenor Thingnam Chandra Kumar said that it was encouraging to see that volunteers enforcing the blockade were not only Manipuris but Karbis, Kukis, Assamese, tea tribes, Dimasas, Bengalis and Nepalis.
The Lup said that the Central Government must be ashamed that it is unable to take up measure lo lift ongoing blockades along NH-53 and 39.
Census grievance cell opened
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Imphal East district administration has opened a census grievance cell at the office of Principal Census Officer at Imphal East DC office complex, Porompat from June 1 to July 15.
General public desirous of lodging their grievances or for any redressal may personally contact Dr Nivedita, Nodal Officer, Census Room No 4 on all working days between 10 am and 4 pm, said a press release.
Students reception
IMPHAL, Jun 9 : The Model English School, Sinakeithei, Ukhrul district accorded a warm reception to all its students, who successfully got through the HSLC examination this year on June 5. The school recorded hundred pass percentage with ten of them coming in the second division.
Decennary celebrated
IMPHAL, Jun 10 : Shishu Nistha Niketan, Kwakeithel Mayai Koibi, Imphal celebrated its 10th foundation day anniversary today.
In addition parents/guardians of students, the function was also attended by Education Minister L Jayantakumar, local MLA Kunjakeshor, Education Commissioner PK Singh and Education Director Harekrishna.
Meritorious students of the school who passed class X exam from CBSE this year were also felicitated during the function, conveyed a press release.
BJP team leaves
IMPHAL, Jun 10: A two member BJP Manipur Pradesh team comprising state president Sh Shantikumar Sharma, and National Executive member and ex-MLA M Bhorot Singh will attend the party’s National Executive Meeting to be held on june 12 and 13 at patna (Bihar) during which the former will submit a report on the prevailing situation in Manipur.
The State unit BJP chief will highlight problems besetting the people of Manipur as a consequence of the economic blockade imposed by ANSAM and UNC, who are protesting holding of Autonomous District Council elections and barring entry of NSCN (IM) general secretary Th Muivah’s visit to Manipur, said a release issued by BJP Manipur Pradesh’s Media Affairs secretary L Bashanta Sharma.
Water supply
IMPHAL, Jun 10: Public Health Engineering Department has informed the general public that supply of water from Singda treatment plant would be suspended for the next three days.
Unprecedented heavy rains and subsequent flash floods in catchment areas have damaged the raw water main line from Polok Intake to Kangchup treatment plant at three different points, said a press release.
The Intake arrangements at Leimakhong have also been submerged by flood and raw water inflow from Singda dam to Kangchup Treatment Plant has become too muddy to undergo treatment, added the release.
Death anniv
IMPHAL, Jun 10: The 15th death anniversary of former MLA of Saikot Assembly Constituency, Ngulkhohao Khungdim at his residence at Newlambulane today. Ngulkhohao Lhungdim was elected MLA for three consecutive terms from 1974 to 1989. Prayers were also offered to mark the anniversary at CMC Hospital, Vellore on June 10.
Bridge closed
IMPHAL, Jun 10: The bailey bridge connecting Kakhulong and Keisham-pat Thokchom Leikai will remain temporarily closed for movement of vehicles until further order as the structure is weak and unsafe, said a Public Works Department release issued by its Executive Engineer, Imphal West division.

IMPHAL, Jun 10:Imphal West district police commandos nabbed one KYKL cadre from Khuyathong yesterday.
He has been identified as Nongthongbam Seilendra Singh (24) s/o Lily Devi of Khurai Puthiba Leikai.
One Nokia handset was seized from his possesion, said a press release of Imphal West Senior SP L Kailun
In another incident, one KYKL cadre surrendered along with arms and ammunition before 29 Assam Rifles at Chamol area of Chandel district today.
