Brutal murder of SDO and two subordinates
CM writes to Home Minister to pull up IM

Literally pointing the finger of accusation against the NSCN (IM) in the abduction and brutal murder of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan his two subordinate staff, driver Aribam Rajen and Mandal Yumnam Token, Chief Minister O Ibobi has written to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to get in touch with the leadership of the outfit and to instruct them not to repeat such act in the future.

Keishing condoles
MLA of Phungyar A/C Wung-naoshing Keishing today visited the family members of Kasom Khullen SDO Thingnam Kishan to express his condolences. Interacting with the bereaved family members, the MLA strongly condemned the killing and encouraged the efforts being made by the Government to nab the killers. The MLA also sought the co-operation of every section of the society in this regard.
Bodies urge
Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Development Association and Kasom Khullen Sub-Division Students’ Association said that the decision of the State Government to suspend Ukhrul DC and SP in connection with the killing of SDO Th Kishan and his subordinate staff Rajen and Token is right. Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for the initiating such prompt actions, the bodies further urged the State Government not to allow the DC to leave Manipur until the culprits involved in the killing are booked.
Mega Marathon
The Mega Marathon, Manipur, 2009 which was scheduled to be organised by UPF on February 22 has been postponed in view of the prevailing unsettling situation in the State.

Curfew still on, no sign of reprieve
Curfew clamped in Imphal West and Imphal East districts since 5 pm yesterday as a pre-emptive measure against any possible untoward incident in the aftermath of the public outcry against the brutal murder of SDO Kishan and his two staff is still in force but there has been no report of any untoward incident till the time of filing this report.
A large number of security personnel including CRPF, MR, IRB and Manipur Police are being deployed in almost every road and street of the twin capital city.
Soon after the curfew was clamped at 5 pm yesterday, a number of commando teams have been going around in the two districts driving in any one who dare to venture out of their homes.

Declare culprits as terrorists: MPP
The Government of India should declare the particular organisation involved in the brutal murder of SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan, Revenue Mandal Y Token and Driver A Rajen as a terrorist organisation in case hints and evidences suggestive of the group’s involvement are established.
MPP MLAs O Joy, Dr Ng Bijoy and RK Anand led by its president Dr L Chandramani visited the bereaved families today and shared their pain and sorrow.
Talking to the visiting MLAs, JAC members and family members decried that the scheduled joint meeting of the three JACs constituted in connection with the triple murder to find a solution to the issue could not be held because of imposition of curfew.

State readies to receive DoNER Minister
Amidst curfew, Union DoNER Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer is all set to arrive here tomorrow on a two-day visit to the State. However, in view of the prevailing tense situation, the Centre and the State Government have been closing monitoring the situation.

JAC sets Feb 22 deadline to meet demands
Even as the bereaved family members decided against taking the bodies of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan and his two subordinate staff namely Aribam Rajen and Yumnam Token Singh until punishment of their killers, the JAC and the Apunba Lup have warned of stepping up agitation against the State Government if it fails to consider the demands placed before it within February 22.

Naga MP, MLAs condemn
Naga Independent MP and MLAs of Manipur have expressed shock and grief over the brutal killing of Dr Thingnam Kishan, MCS and SDO of Kasom Khullen and his two staff, Aribam Rajen and Yumnam Loken by unidentified assailants.

Taking serious note of the brutal murder of SDO Dr Thingnam Kishan and his two staff in the most macabre manner, the proscribed KCP (MC) has accused Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pal of being behind the bestial criminal act.

After staging a protest sit-in protest in Ukhrul Bazaar, frontal Tangkhul social organisations have urged the con- cern authorities with urgency to book the culprits involved in the killing of Kasom Khullen SDO Dr Th.Kishan and his two subordinate staffs.

JAC, Govt caught in deadlock
Even as members of the bereaved families, the Apunba Lup and the JAC constituted connection with the brutal murder of SDO Kasom Khullen Dr Thingnam Ki-shan, Revenue Mondal Y Token and Driver A Rajen have a meeting with the CM, no agreement could be reached between the two sides on any point.

Condemnations over the killing of SDO Kishan and his subordinate staff Rajen and Token are coming in from all quarters for the third day today.

MRF condemns killing
The Manipur Research Forum (MRF) has strongly condemned the brutal and sense-less killing of SDO Kasom Khullen Dr Th Kishan and his two staff, Aribam Rajen and Yumnam Token. A press release issued by the forum described late Dr Kishan as one of the sensitive and courageous minds in Manipur who sought wholeheartedly to bridge the gap bet-ween ground realities and academic inter-vention, between the subjective and objective appreciation of key issues confron-ting society. He will be remembered as a committed activist, an incisive scholar and as a brave administrator, it said. Observing that Dr Kishan is not the first nor is he likely to the last to fall prey to banal violence, the forum called upon all to introspect on how many more such deaths the Manipuri society shall face with conspiracies of silence. It also men-tioned that Dr Kishan used to contribute articles to the journal “Eastern Quarterly”.
