Aimol meet
IMPHAL, Jan 21: Coming alive to a razzmatazz oif cultural activities, the Ist Aimol cultural meet, 2009 was held under the aegis of Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur at Kharam Thadou village today. The event was attended by CN Aimol and president of Aimol Trine Union, Manipur Athoi Bongty as chief guest and functional president respectively. Secretary general of National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) Sunil Ka- ram, AMSU president Khamba Laishram and Khupler Kom were also present at the occasion as special guests.
Those who spoke at the occasion stressed on protection of the cultural elements of the various groups of people living in Manipur.
Kuki Chiefs

IMPHAL, Jan 21 : The Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Chandel district has asked all chiefs and chairmen of village coming under the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal sub-division to attend the re-installation ceremony of Tengnoupal sub-division to be held at Tengnoupal village at 11 am on January 23. The association has warned that if any chief and chairman fail to attend the ceremony it will be assumed that the said chief is not willing to come under Tengnoupal.
JAC blocks road at Wabagai

IMPHAL, Jan 21: Under the banner of the JAC formed in connection with the killing of one Karung Thoiba (44) s/o K Sanajaoba of Mahao Tera village in Chandel district road blockade was enforced today at Wabagai Lamkhai section of the Burma-Sugnu road.
Karung Thoiba was slain by a commando team on January 19 at Wabagai Leirak Achouba which the JAC and family members/relatives of the deceased had been contended that Thoiba was apprehended from home only to be found shot dead.
During the protest demonstration wherein placards were put on display and slogans raised in condemnation of the alleged gunning down of innocent persons by police commandos, demanded non-deployment of commandos in between Waikhong and Sugnu, and punishment of the guilty personnel people from Umathel, Wangoo Lamkhai, Pangaltabi, Tonsen, Mahao Tera, Nungkang and Leinganching areas participated.
While vehicular traffic remained disrupted along the route as the protest demonstration commenced from about 5.30 am police commandos arrived later in the day and dispersed the gathering to allow some passenger carriers move toward Sugnu. Taking grim note of the police action, JAC members affirmed the agitation would be sustained until the matter is resolved amicably and satisfactorily.
Written test
IMPHAL, Jan 21: Department of History of Manipur University informed that the written test for admission into the Ph D programme 2009 will be held on January 27 at 11 am in the lecture hall of the department. All the candidates are to collect admit cards by producing original documents, said a press release.
The Ph D entrance examination of the Life Science Department of the varsity will be held on January 28 at 12 noon in the recreation hall. The Department informed the candidates to collect admit cards for the test during office hours from January 22 to 27.

IMPHAL, Jan 21: DM College of Arts Students’ Union informed the students of the college staying in hostel and rented houses to collect their share of kerosene (three litres per head at Rs 14 per litre) for the month of January on January 23 and 24 between 3 pm and 5 pm at Academic Block room number 27.

PULF refutes
IMPHAL, Jan 21: Refuting the police claim in connection with killing of one Md Ayub Ali s/o Asp Ali of Keirao Makting Makha Leikai on the night of January 13 at Keikhu Muslim Khul area by Police Commandos on mobile patrol duty, the publicity secretary of the armed outfit PULF Saroz Khan has clarified the deceased had not connection with the outfit at all.
It has been established that the Police Commandos had been hired to kill Ayub Ali by one his own friends and the claim of recovering 9 mm pistol ammunition and other incriminating documents from the possession of the slain is nothing but blatant lying, which is an old habit of the security personnel, Saroz Khan added.

IMPHAL, Jan 21: The Commander of 10 Sector Assam Rifles interacted with the representatives of Tangkh-ul Naga Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tang-khul Shanao Long and other organisations at the Headquarters on January 19. The Commander emphasised on the need of invol- vement of youths and social organisations in development of the Ukhrul town and to make it as a terror free zone. He also appreciated the efforts of various organisations and promised all possible help in making Ukhrul a peaceful town. CRPF recruitment
IMPHAL, Jan 21: Group Centre CRPF, Langjing will conduct recruitment for filling up of the vacancies of Constables (GD/male female) from Nagaland and Manipur from January 27 to February 2 for which call letters to eligible applicants have already been dispatched at the address given by candidates in their application forms. Candidates are required to report for PET at the recruitment centre on the dates given in call letters and must make their own arrangement for their stay during the recruitment process.
Training programme
IMPHAL, Jan 21: National Association of Fishermen (NAF), Manipur State Unit in collaboration with National Fisheries Develop- ment Board, Hyderabad organised a five-day scientific fish rearing training and demonstration programme at the community hall of Thanga Oinam Leikai.
MP and NAP national chairman Shankhlal Majhi graced the closing function held on January 18 as chief guest. More than 100 fishermen attended the training programme.

IMPHAL, Jan 21: The Zoological Society of India has conferred gold medal and citation to W Vishwanath and Dr RK Gambhir of Department of Life Sciences of Manipur University on the occasion of 19th National Congress of Zoology held at Gauhati University on December 29.
Red Shield plans med camp
IMPHAL, Jan 21: Under the aegis of the Red Shield Division, HQs 27 Sector would organise four medical and two dental camps in different parts of Churachandpur district to provide medical aid to needy persons in the far flung areas where health services of the civil administration are not available, said a PRO PIB (DW) statement.
Conveying that medical camps would be held at Parbung and Leizangphai village on January 22 followed by similar programme the next day at Sangaikot village, the statement added that another medical camp will be held in Songdo village of Singhat sub-division.
The dental camps will be held at Parbung and Songdo, it maintained while further adding that 57 Mountain Division is also planning to have one veterinary camp in Singhat sub-division on January 29, 2009.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles will be conducting recruitment rally at Chassad of Ukhrul district from February 2 for all domiciles of manipur to enrol 30 Group C personnel (GD/GD driver) for which the candidates should be in the age group of 18-23 years. Four UG cadres arrested
Imphal, Jan 21: Imphal East district police commandos arrested two KLA cadres from New Checkon today. The cadres have been identified as Helun Taothang alias Apao (30) s/o Angam Taothang of Sapermeina, Senapati district and Paokhansiem Guite alias Sesiem (25) s/o Lothang Guite of Bunglung village, Senapati district.
On verification, they disclosed that they are the active members of KLA (imposter) since 2002. They also said that they were involved in extortion of money from general public, Government officials and businessmen of Imphal area and they also provided shelter for KLA (imposter), said a press release of Imphal East SP.
A combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and troops of 21 AR arrested one PREPAK (VC) cadre identified as Mayanglambam Anand Singh (25) s/o Brajamani of Kakching Khunou Awang Keithel Leikai during a frisking drive conducted at Lamjao village yesterday. On questioning, the individual disclosed that he is presently working in finance section of the organisation.
Thoubal district police commandos arrested one KCP (Noyon) cadre identified as Wahengbam Nanao alias Jeet (26) s/o Tomba of Arong Awang Leikai yesterday. On questioning, Nanao disclosed that he is working in the finance section of KCP (Noyon), said a release of Thoubal SP.
